TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

To give a sense of my pedagogical approach, here are a few vital stats:

  • MOTTO: “I can’t promise that I’ll be the funniest professor you’ve ever had, but you’ll never have a professor who thinks they’re as funny as think I am.”
  • TEACHING STYLE: Encyclopedic knowledge with the enthusiasm of a Labrador retrieving a tennis ball.
  • TYPICAL STUDENT FEEDBACK: High expectations, but well organized and expectations clear. Accessible through email. High energy classroom; good vibes.

Selected literature courses that I’ve taught:

  • ENGL 378: Fantasy Fiction (upper-division elective)
  • ENGL 373A: Beowulf to Milton (upper-division core course)
  • ENGL 178: Dragons, Elves, and How to Build Imaginary Worlds (General Education course)
    • Large class designed to be run without GAT support.
  • ENGL 160D2: Monsters, Ghosts, Aliens, and Others (General Education course)
    • A writing-attribute course occasionally taught at larger sizes with GAT support.

For a complete list of my courses taught, please consult my curriculum vitae (click on the pdf version). For anyone interested in more formal pedagogical documents, consult my Teaching Philosophy or my official Diversity Statement. I’m also Quality Matters certified for online teaching. Finally, a few years ago, I earned a Lecturer Teaching Award.
